The Lightning Thief
by Rick Riordan
Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school . . . again. And that's the least of his troubles. Lately, mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy's Greek mythology textbook and into his life. And worse, he's angered a few of them. Zeus's master bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect.
Now Percy and his friends have 10 days to find and return Zeus's stolen property and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the true thief; he must come to terms with the father who abandoned him; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of a betrayal by a friend; and unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves.*
This series has always been one of my favorites. When I was younger, I had all the prophecies memorized and I had read the books so many times, that I could open any book to any part and know exactly what was going on.
Even though these books are for a younger age range, I can see myself in a few years rereading this books and still enjoying them. These books are an easy read though that does not mean there is no thinking involved. Rick Riordan really helps you understand everything that is going on and leaves everything tied up neatly at the end, with no loose strings.
While Riordan's first series was amazing, I think his sequal series went a little downhill, but I do enjoy him as a author.
